The team at four-star medieval castle hotel, Langley Castle, were thrilled to become Silver Award winners in the national Visit England Awards for Excellence, 2023.

The Langley Castle team, headed up by Executive General Manager, Margaret Livingstone-Evans, scooped one of the highest accolades in English tourism, in the Resilience and Innovation category of the national awards.

This success followed the castle hotel scooping Gold and Bronze Awards at the North East Tourism Awards, earlier in the year.

At the national finals, Langley competed against two other regional finalists, from across the 16 regions that had created regional winners.  In this sense, it showed true excellence.

Langley Castle was highly praised by its regional judges, having innovated tremendously to enrich the experience of guests and couples arranging weddings.  This included creating compelling tourism and weddings collateral that entertains and inform guests, both ahead of a stay and during their time at Langley Castle.

At the same time, the new product development has been exciting. The castle has done everything possible to get on the radar of staycationers and visitors from overseas.

The Visit England Awards for Excellence ceremony, was held on June 7 at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.  The irony of this is that Langley Castle has many aspects that bear a remarkable similarity to elements in the Harry Potter books. Author, J K Rowling, also visited the castle before their publication, so may have been inspired by some of Langley Castle’s features and history.

Speaking about the success, Langley Castle’s Margaret Livingstone-Evans, says, “Scooping a Silver Award at the English tourism industry’s top awards is just a fantastic achievement for a hotel of our size.  It is testament to all the hard work that has gone into our product development and creative ideas.

“We have to fight hard to get into the spotlight, given our size and rural location. We are, therefore, delighted the judges recognised the tremendous effort of the entire team.”
